SYNOPSIS

Following the sudden and traumatic loss of his family in the early days of a virulent plague, Carter retreats into the desert, hiding away from what remains of the world. But when a lost girl arrives at his door seeking help, he must confront old wounds and find a way to finally heal... Or bleed out.

PRODUCTION

Independently funded and produced, Red Plague serves as the true definition of a passion project. Created by a small team of students from Chapman and Azusa Pacific Universities, the script was written in late 2022, with pre-production taking place throughout 2023. Production took place in January of 2024, concluding after three weeks of shooting in locations all over Southern California, including Lancaster, San Pedro, and Adelanto. Post-production is set to conclude in January 2025.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

I created this film to scratch a nearly 20-year-old storytelling itch. A deep-rooted desire to create something that expressed me artistically while also pushing the boundaries of what I was capable of. The result is a personal story about navigating grief and loss set against a post-apocalyptic western backdrop, completely independently produced and funded by a bunch of college students and independent actors who all signed on simply because they love what they do. We wanted to create something beautiful and genuine, and I think we did.
